| STEVE HORAN About the Artist _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ |
| ARTIST BIOGRAPHY I have been a landscape artist for the last thirty years. During this time, I have been producing paintings using acrylics or pastels. I have also been producing my own limited edition silkscreen prints making the stencils and doing the printing myself. The major portion of my recent work consists of nighttime representations of lights or images of the city. I am interested in capturing basic geometric relationships and if possible, some of the spiritual impact, of urban as well as rural landscapes. STUDIO Prior to retiring to Bella Vista, Arkansas, my studio/home was a rehabbed loft located West Loop area of Chicago. However, in contrast, I am enjoying the serenity of the woods and landscape in Northwest Arkansas. Here I paint, frame, and live with my wife Janet and our cat Clancy, who runs the place. EDUCATION I have an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago. I worked on an advanced degree in Art History at the same University and studied in Europe on fellowship for a summer. My interest in art has been long-standing. My father was a commercial artist who did his renderings in pastels. Dad let me play with his pastels and drawing tools when I was a little boy (as long as I put them back in good order). This is what started me on my career. PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES After serving two years in the Army during the Viet Nam war, I became a graphic designer for a time. My wife encouraged me to become a full time artist and pursue my dream. I have served as the treasurer of the Midwest Pastel Society and as a juror and board member of the Wilmette Arts Guild. During the last twenty-five years, I have personally maintained gallery representation in New York, Chicago and in many other cities. In addition, agents and publishers of my limited edition serigraphs have sold hundreds of my prints to galleries and collectors whose names I do not fully know. I have completed works of art for galleries, corporations and private collectors as far away as Canberra, Australia, where William Pei & Associates, architects, selected a suite of my limited edition prints for installation in a hotel they designed. I look forward to being involved with other artists in Northwest Arkansas. I am a member of the following organizations: Artists of Northwest Arkansas, The Ozark Pastel Society and the Bella Vista Art Club. PURCHASERS OF MY ARTWORK I have been a professional artist since 1968. Some Chicago area corporations that have acquired my artwork for their permanent collections include the AMOCO Oil Company, Borg Warner, Chicago Realtors Association, Gould, Illinois Benedictine College, Lakepoint Towers, McDonalds, A.C. Nielsen, Schiff Hardin & Waite, UIDC Management and the University of Illinois Research Hospital. JURIED EXHIBITIONS AND ONE-MAN SHOWS In March 2005, I was inviited to exhibit at the Biennale Internazionale dell'Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy. Over the last twenty-five years, I have been juried into many national exhibitions and one- man shows. My juried exhibitions in 2001 were The One of a Kind Show in December at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago and a group showing of artwork at the Chicago Athenaeum, in Schamburg, Illinois, Spring, 2001 by artists selected by jury to be included in the survey book, Art Scene Chicago 2000 by Ivy Sundell. I have been juried into the three national exhibitions of the Midwest Pastel Society thus becoming a signature member.
